Political arguments aside, the process of immigration should be relatively simple.
As it currently stands, bureaucratic loops, long waiting lists, and other complications make the path to citizenship difficult to navigate. As a result, people often feel hopeless about their dreams to enter the United States legally.
This may, in fact, be a large part of the reason that undocumented immigrants are so common in the United States. If you’re looking to enter the States and want to avoid too much complication, read the following guide to help you streamline your efforts.
Speeding the Path to Citizenship
Current administrative attitudes are seeking to further regulate the influx of immigrants into the United States. While the process may be relatively the same in terms of difficulty, the reality is that people should no longer seek to enter the United States illegally.
Obviously, people shouldn’t enter a country illegally in the first place, but each person’s story is different, and there are certain pressures that would force a person to flee their home. Today’s reality forces immigrants to go through the legal process of citizenship.
The following is a list of ways to make that process easier.
1. Try to Find Employment
Obtaining a visa is significantly easier if you can prove that you have reliable work lined up when you arrive. There are a lot of jobs for specific skills in the States, so seek positions in your profession and you’re likely to find a few options.
There’s no harm in trying, and many applications are submitted online and interviews can be conducted via the telephone in a lot of cases.
2. Have a Family Member Petition
If you have a spouse or family member in the United States, it is useful to have them petition to get you a permanent visa. This will significantly increase your chances of a speedy and successful immigration.
3. Make Sure You Are Eligible
There are a number of requirements that you must satisfy in order to be eligible to become a United States citizen. In order to simply qualify for resident status, you must be related to a citizen of the United States or a green card holder.
This would require you to be a spouse, parent, or sibling of someone who lives in the country. This is going to be the person that petitions for your visa.
Additionally, you are qualified if you can prove that you have found a secure job from an establishment within the United States. This company most request a labor certification from the Department of Labor. It can be difficult to have this happen because it typically requires that you are a highly skilled laborer.
Finally, if you are freeing your country as a refugee, you must have a “well-founded fear of persecution,” which can be a result of a number of different things.
