It reminded me of a lesson I learned from a sports psychologist I listen to regularly named Justin Su’a. He talked about the importance of follow through while working towards a goal and related it to climbing a mountain.
He said,
If you want to climb a mountain (or reach a goal) as fast as possible you have to do 3 things:
- Decide which mountain you want to climb (choose a goal)
- Decide the path you want to take (choose a method)
- Commit to that path until you reach the top (follow through with your method)
He said that when you start up a path and then the trail starts to get difficult or there are obstacles you didn’t expect you might second guess your chosen path. You might think that there is a better or easier path to get to the top of the mountain.
So you go back down and choose another path only to find the new path also has its own challenges and obstacles.
The key to achieving any goal is follow through.
The beginning is always the easiest. It’s new and exciting but then the newness wears off and the trail gets challenging.
You have to keep putting one foot in front of the other even when it’s boring or difficult.
That’s the price for great rewards.
Only those who will stay the course and follow through with their chosen method will reach the summit, achieve their goal and accomplish their dreams. I know you have it in you to be one of those elite few who make it to the top. You are strong and will do whatever it takes to accomplish your goal. You’ve got this!
If you’re finding it hard to stay consistent in your pronunciation and fluency practice, don’t worry. Nothing has gone wrong. It just means you are human. I promise you amazing results as you keep putting one foot in front of the next towards your goal.
