As a parent of 5 young sons I think a lot about the example I am setting for my children.
A student of mine, Mohammad, shared an incredible experienced he had with his son that shows the power of our examples as parents.
Mohammad told me that he was having a hard time getting his teenage son to do his math assignments for school.
This was important to Mohammad since he himself had a masters degree in math. But the harder he pushed the more his son resisted.
His son claimed, “You don’t understand because math comes easily to you”.
Not too long after, Mohammad joined my course.
Speaking English clearly with an American accent was not something that came easily to him and his son knew it. His son watched his dad consistently study and practice and work at it.
Mohammad went to his son for help and feedback because his son grew up in the US and already had a native accent. It came easily to him.
Mohammad noticed that during this time his son started taking his math assignments more seriously and came to him for help.
Mohammad knew that through his example he was able to teach a valuable lesson to his son. Something words alone couldn’t accomplish.
Are you ready to set the example for your family?
